WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
Program curriculum.
-
-
An introduction to the COMPASS program, its guiding principles, and the purpose behind the training. Participants explore the foundations of the COMPASS approach, the role of a coach, and the intentions that inform the work. This module establishes a shared understanding of the program's philosophy, expectations, and overall direction.
-
Effective coaching begins with clear communication, ethical practice, and healthy professional boundaries. This module explores the principles, policies, and responsibilities that support safe, respectful, and effective coaching relationships. Participants develop an understanding of ethical decision-making, professional conduct, confidentiality, and the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries throughout the coaching process.
-
Learn how to translate coaching principles into practical application. This module focuses on the structure and construction of the coaching process, exploring the practical skills, processes, and considerations that support effective sessions. Participants develop a clearer understanding of how to organize their work, navigate the coaching process, and create a purposeful experience for those they support.
-
Shame, comparison, and manipulation can influence how people perceive themselves, relate to others, and engage in personal growth. This module explores these dynamics and their impact on the coaching relationship. Participants develop greater awareness of the ways shame and manipulative behaviours can emerge, how these patterns may affect participants, and how to foster an environment grounded in autonomy, compassion, and personal responsibility.
-
Develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to apply coaching tools effectively. This module explores the practical use of coaching techniques, supporting participants in understanding when, why, and how different tools may be used. Emphasis is placed on thoughtful application, recognizing individual needs, and developing the competence to guide meaningful conversations and personal exploration.
-
Explore the techniques, modalities, and foundational approaches that can inform coaching practice. This module introduces the components that contribute to a well-rounded coaching experience, helping participants understand different methods of supporting awareness, reflection, and personal development. Participants build an appreciation for the ways different approaches can be integrated thoughtfully and responsively into their work.
-
The ability to ask meaningful questions is central to effective coaching. This module explores the art of consultation, including how to listen deeply, ask purposeful questions, clarify concerns, and support participants in exploring their experiences. Participants develop skills for creating thoughtful dialogue, recognizing what may need further exploration, and helping individuals arrive at their own insights without imposing assumptions or conclusions.
-
Clear documentation and access to appropriate resources are important components of professional coaching practice. This module focuses on developing effective written reports, organizing relevant information, and identifying resources that support participants' ongoing growth. Participants explore how to communicate observations clearly, document information responsibly, and connect their work to practical tools and additional support when appropriate.
-
These specialized modules explore therapeutic approaches that can deepen a coach's understanding of emotional experiences, internal patterns, and personal development. Each introduces a distinct perspective that can inform compassionate, thoughtful, and participant-centred practice.
Explore the relationship between the body, emotions, and lived experience through the principles of somatic therapy. This module introduces body awareness as a way of understanding how stress, emotional responses, and past experiences may be reflected in physical sensations and patterns. Participants explore approaches that encourage greater awareness of the body's signals and support a more integrated understanding of personal experience. -
Develop an understanding of the different parts of the self and how they may influence thoughts, emotions, behaviours, and relationships. This module introduces concepts from Internal Family Systems (IFS) alongside inner-child work, exploring how protective patterns and earlier experiences can shape present-day responses. Participants learn about approaches that encourage curiosity, self-compassion, and a deeper understanding of internal experiences.
-
Explore Compassionate Inquiry, an approach developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that emphasizes curiosity, compassion, and awareness in understanding the beliefs, emotions, and experiences underlying present-day behaviours. This module introduces ways of exploring the stories people carry, the patterns they develop, and the protective responses that may influence their lives. Participants consider how compassionate questioning and attentive listening can support deeper self-awareness and meaningful personal exploration.

We understand that Compass is a fairly significant time commitment, as well as a program that requires a lot of mental and emotional energy. Some people begin and think that they can handle it but realize they can't. We have worked very hard to be flexible and design a program that works for everybody, but in order for people to continue with Compass, they need to be able to fulfill the requirements.
